THE WEEKEND WANDERERS BIG RALLY 2012
INFORMATION PAGE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
|
How do I buy a ticket? |
Please make out your cheque to The Weekend Wanderers & include an oblong DL size self addressed envelope then post to: The Weekend Wanderers, P.O.BOX 7367 Hook, Hampshire RG27 7FA and say if in a tent, caravan, campervan or B&B plus how many non-detectorists with you. |
Why should I buy a weekend ticket for 50 when I can get two day tickets for just 20 each?tickets are just 20 each? |
A 50 weekend ticket allows you to turn up from 8.00 am on Friday, set up your pitch and detect all day. So really you get three days detecting, two nights camping and two night of live music! You can’t camp at all if you buy day tickets. |
Can I buy a day ticket for Friday? |
No. |
I’ve got a weekend ticket and am putting up two six berth tents. Can all my non-detecting mates join me for camping? |
Whilst there is no charge for a detectorist’s spouse or a family member camping, non-detecting groups sharing tents is stretching our hospitality! Please note that all detector users must be wearing wrist bands plus have a tag attached to their detector. Marshals will check everyone entering the gate onto the field and will ask to see your tickets if tags are not displayed. Tickets must be on you at all times. |
I’m not camping but am staying in accommodation. Can I still come along and detect on Friday? |
Yes but you must have a weekend ticket. If staying off site then yes, just turn up anytime Friday after 8.00 am & join in. |
I have a weekend ticket and my wife has a Saturday ticket. If she finds she would like to do Sunday as well, can she still get a Sunday day ticket? |
If extra tickets are required, go to the registration tent and we will provide you with tickets, wrist and detector tags. |
Can I arrive on Thursday? |
No. The paddocks are rented out on Thursday and the horses will be turned out on them all day. |
Can I stay on the campsite on Sunday night? |
It is possible for those catching a ferry or making a long trip back to stay on until Monday. You will have to pay a 10 deposit in advance per unit which is refundable only if you leave no rubbish. Enquire at the registration tent on arrival. |
How much is it for children who are detecting? |
Children under 10 are free. You can purchase Junior tickets that are half the normal price of adult tickets for under 16’s |
Are dogs allowed? |
Dogs are allowed yes but must be kept on leads at all times as the farmer has many very loved pet free range hens, geese & other poultry running loose everywhere. A dead chicken isn’t worth the grief you will get from the farmer! |
Can we have a barbeque? |
No. Open fires and BBQs are not worth the risk of stray sparks starting tent fires. They burnt the grass too. |
Are there toilets? |
We have over 20 portable toilets with hand washing dotted around the campsite and in the field. They will be serviced and cleaned Saturday lunchtime but bring your own loo rolls. |
Can I empty my caravan toilet cassette somewhere? |
We have hired a toilet emptying tank just for that purpose. |
Is there drinking water on site? |
There will be standpipes installed close to the camping areas but only to walk to. We recommend that you bring as much water with you as possible to avoid lugging heavy containers |
Are there showers on site? |
No. The water pressure is too low on the farm. |
Are there electric hookups? |
There are no electric hookups on site but we may be able to find a socket to charge phones etc. |
Where can I buy camping gas? |
Charlton Park garden centre, Wantage OX12 8EP |
Where is the nearest supermarket or petrol station |
Filling station @ Sainsburys supermarket, Wantage OX12 9AJ |
Do you have First Aid? |
St. John Ambulance will have a first aid gazebo in the Arena close to the main marquee. |
What happens if it rains, do you cancel the rally? |
As with all outdoor events you cannot guarantee good weather. As so many of you have planned your holidays, booked accommodation, flights & ferries then no, we will not cancel because of bad weather. The show must go on! As a precaution, I have a temporary roadway on standby. Life rafts & arm bands will be provided if the going gets rough! |
What time does detecting start and finish? |
On Friday you can start as soon as you have set up your pitch. On Saturday & Sunday the start time is 9.00 am. Detecting ends at 6.00 pm, Friday to Sunday |
What time can we arrive? |
The gate unlocks at 8.00 am on Friday and no earlier. On Saturday and Sunday the gate unlocks at 7.00 am. If you arrive earlier than that you will be waiting on the lane leading to the farm gate and will have to park there until are ready to unlock the gate and let you in. |
THE REGISTRATION TENT & WHEN YOU ARRIVAL |
|
Our friendly marshals will meet and greet you when you turn up at the registration tent. To save time, please stay in your vehicle and they will come to you so please have your tickets ready and the correct money if buying tickets on the day. On entry our registration marshals will provide you with the following: |
|
WRIST BANDS |
A coloured wrist band to wear on your wrist. These Tyvek wrist bands are used for proof of entry for festivals & events & are strong, waterproof and do not stretch or tear. They must be worn at all times or we ask to see your ticket. |
A TAG FOR YOUR DETECTOR |
Please attach this tag to your detector. The tags are the same colour as your wrist band & must be visible at all times. |
A MAP OF THE RALLY SITE |
This map of the rally search area indicates which fields you can search on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The fields are all numbered on this map & match the large numbered signs that we have put out all around the farm. Out of bounds areas are also marked on this map. |
RALLY RULES |
Please read the rally rules and code of conduct. This also has a section of the Landowner/ finder agreement for finds and treasure items. |
FINDS RECORDING APPEAL |
Recording your finds with the FLO’s in the marquee is an essential part of coming to the rally. This is a unique chance for them to collate huge amounts of valuable information that cannot otherwise be gathered by any other means. We work hard with the FLO’s and Archaeologists when planning these rallies so we rely on on you for 100% recording of finds. |
LOCAL AMENETIES |
We have useful information about stores such as all night chemists, hardware stores, supermarkets, filling stations, Camping shops with opening times & distances from the site. |
Full directions are posted to you with the information sheets with your tickets.
The POST CODE OX12 9BU takes you to the location of our signs in Portway (B4507) WANTAGE.
Staying on the B4507, you'll eventually arrive at POST CODE OX12 9RR which is right by the cricket club on Ickleton road at East Challow. Do not turn off the B4507 until you see the rally signs.

PLEASE ALLOW ABOUT TWO WEEKS FOR YOUR TICKETS TO BE POSTED TO YOU
This year we have a company geared up to running outdoor events and will be providing us with your favorite real ales and a wide range of ciders. Bars4Events will be bringing one 50 ft x 30 ft traditional marquee to house their excellent bar.
They want to know if you have any preferences or requests and they’ll do their best to supply you with you favorite tipple! Guinness is popular but e-mail me if there is a particular ale you fancy or we will experiment with some of the weird and strong country real ales again this year!
