It's with a heavy heart that I have to announce the sad passing of my old
detecting buddy Rod Cooper. Some of you may have known Rod (Hotrod) from 3
Counties/UKDR, Central Searchers & Weekend Wanderers.

Some years ago Rod successfully recovered from throat cancer and after that
long battle returned to detecting with new vigour. He probably had his best
detecting days during this period making many great finds including the
beautiful gold ring used on the Weekend Wanderers home page and the
stunning gold pendant from Stagsden. I accompanied Rod to the auction when
it was sold and he was like a child as the auction progressed. A very happy
memory.

Rod's health had deteriorated over the last year and he was finding it
increasingly difficult to get out detecting. He could just about manage a
nice flat dry field but anything hilly or muddy was becoming beyond him.

He suffered a minor stroke last week, and while in hospital receiving
treatment he suffered a heart attack. Lisa and are in the process
of helping Rod's wife, who is Chinese and speaks very little English, and
have secured an interpreter from a local church to help sort his affairs.

I would also like to say how sad the news was today to hear from Lee that Rod has passed away. Rod was such a likable man who would never say anything bad about anyone. He earned his nick name from the old banger he used to drive around in hence ‘Hot Rod’

Rod made some great finds with our club and Rod’s ring on our home page was his best WW find. Good old Rod has now joined up with Al in a pretty exclusive club that has no limit on membership  but only the best are accepted. We’ll all be members one day and enjoy good times once more with them. RIP Hot Rod.
